On April 24, 2026, a comprehensive Study Tour for farmers and businesses dedicated to the implementation of climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable (“green”) practices in horticulture was successfully conducted within the framework of the GREEN-HORT study program, implemented as part of the PROGRESS project in Ukraine.
The event took place in Zalishchyky (Ternopilska oblast) at the premises of the Zalishchyky Professional College named after Yevhen Khraplyvyi of National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine of Ukraine, which served as a key regional platform for integrating scientific knowledge, practical experience, and policy dialogue in sustainable horticulture.
The workshop was conducted in a hybrid format, allowing participants to join either online or in person. A total of 190 participants representing 19 oblast (region) of Ukraine registered for the event.
As an integral part of the Study Tour program, participants conducted a structured field visit to Farm Enterprise “GADZ” (https://fg-gadz.com.ua/) one of the leading horticultural enterprises in Ukraine specializing in the industrial-scale production of apples, pears, and plums. The enterprise represents a practical example of a vertically integrated horticultural system combining modern production technologies, post-harvest infrastructure, and market-oriented logistics.
The field visit was designed to bridge theoretical knowledge presented during the thematic sessions with real-world industrial practices, enabling participants to observe the implementation of climate-resilient and technologically advanced horticultural systems at scale.
Participants were introduced to the enterprise’s high-density intensive orchard systems, which are based on modern European horticultural models adapted to Ukrainian agroclimatic conditions. Special attention was given to the enterprise’s capacity to maintain stable productivity under variable climatic conditions, particularly in relation to spring frost risks, summer droughts, and temperature fluctuations.
The visit also highlighted the enterprise’s commitment to sustainable horticultural production and climate-oriented farming practices, including: These practices reflect a transition toward climate-smart horticulture, aligned with European Green Deal principles and sustainable agriculture objectives. Participants also gained insights into the enterprise’s business model and value chain integration strategy.
